Sugar Defender Supplement Facts: Every Line on the Label, Read Plainly

Quick answer

The Sugar Defender supplement facts panel lists a 1 mL serving and 60 servings per bottle. Each mL holds 0.7 mcg of chromium picolinate (2% DV) and a 200 mg proprietary herbal blend of 22 ingredients, with no single amounts. The label prints three misspellings, no factory name and no caffeine figure. No study has tested this formula.

The panel01

What is on the Sugar Defender supplement facts panel?

The Sugar Defender supplement facts panel has four parts: the serving line, one chromium line, a 200 mg blend line and the other ingredients.

The serving is 1 ml, and the bottle holds 60 of them. Chromium is the only ingredient with its own weight: 0.7 mcg, or 2% of the Daily Value. The other 22 share 200 mg.

Tap a number to read that part of the Supplement Facts panel.

  1. Serving size

1 ml per serving and 60 servings per container. The label dose is one serving a day.

  2. Chromium line

Chromium (as chromium picolinate) at 0.7 mcg, or 2% of the Daily Value. The only single amount printed.

  3. %DV column

Only chromium has a Daily Value. The double asterisk on the blend means no Daily Value is established.

  4. Proprietary Herbal Blend

200 mg shared by all 22 ingredients. Single amounts are hidden, which the rules allow.

  5. First in the blend

Maca root comes first, so it is the largest share. Ingredients run from most to least by weight.

  6. African mango

4th of 22, so at most 50 mg per mL. Studies used 300 mg a day. The panel misprints it 'gabonesis'.

  7. Gymnema

8th of 22, so at most 25 mg per mL. Studies used 200-400 mg a day of extract.

  8. Panax ginseng

12th of 22, root extract, so at most 17 mg per mL. Trials started near 100 mg a day.

  9. The amino acids

L-glutamine to L-carnitine fill most of the second half, with a licorice compound among them.

  10. Other ingredients

Deionized water, organic citrus extract, natural flavors, stevia and xylitol make up the base. Xylitol is dangerous to dogs.

What does the full Sugar Defender label say?

The full Sugar Defender label holds the brand name, the gold band, the Supplement Facts panel, the directions, the warnings and a distributor line.

Small print on a curved bottle is hard to read, so we typed every word below, spelling kept as printed. If your bottle differs, trust the bottle in your hand.

Blend math03

How much of each herb is in the proprietary blend?

Nobody outside the company knows. A proprietary blend only has to print its total weight and list its parts from most to least by weight (21 CFR 101.36 (eCFR)).

Some math still works. An even split gives about 9 mg per mL each, and the ingredient in place k holds at most 200 divided by k.

Most each ingredient can weigh in one 1 mL serving, from its place in the 200 mg blend. Real amounts are not printed.

Misprints04

Which words on the Sugar Defender label are misspelled?

Three names on the Sugar Defender ingredients label are misspelled: "Vitis finifera", "Irvingia gabonesis" and "L-Omithine".

The correct spellings are Vitis vinifera (grape), Irvingia gabonensis (African mango) and L-Ornithine. A few words also run together, such as "SeedExtract".

These are typing slips. They do not change the formula or say anything about quality.

Why the slips are worth knowing

Matching misprints hint that two bottles share the same artwork. Different spelling is not proof of a fake. See how to check a bottle.

The front band05

What does "Blood Sugar Support Formula" on the label mean?

"Blood Sugar Support Formula" is support wording, the kind supplements may use. It is not a claim that the drops treat any disease.

The label also carries the FDA statement, and FDA does not approve supplements before sale (FDA, Using Dietary Supplements). The sales page promises "24 proven ingredients", but the panel has 23 lines, and no trial of the Sugar Defender formula has been published.

02

The count

The liquid06

What else is in the Sugar Defender formula besides the blend?

The liquid base is five things: deionized water, organic citrus extract, natural flavors, stevia (steviol glycosides) and xylitol.

Water carries the blend, and stevia and xylitol sweeten it. No preservative or glycerin is listed.

Directions and warnings07

What do the label's directions and warnings ask you to do?

The directions say: "Adults, take 1mL a day or as directed by a healthcare professional." That is the only dosing line on the bottle.

No time of day or storage step is printed. At 1 mL a day, 60 mL lasts 60 days; the order page counts 30. The warnings rule out anyone under 18 and ask anyone pregnant, nursing or on other medication to consult a physician first.

Gaps08

What does the Sugar Defender label leave out?

The label leaves out the factory, the country of manufacture, a caffeine amount and every blend amount except the total.

The distributor line names sugardefender.com in Aurora, Colorado; the maker is not named. The flat artwork shows a placeholder lot code, so read the one on your own bottle.

  • No published lab report: lot SD-26/IS-7185 is a seller reference
  • No caffeine figure, though guarana and green tea are listed

FAQ09

Questions about the Sugar Defender label

How do I read the Sugar Defender Supplement Facts panel?

Start at the top: one serving is 1 ml, and the bottle has 60. Chromium at 0.7 mcg is the only single amount. The 200 mg blend then lists 22 ingredients, most to least by weight, and the other ingredients close the panel.

Why are some ingredients misspelled on the Sugar Defender bottle?

They look like typing slips in the artwork: "Vitis finifera" for vinifera, "gabonesis" for gabonensis and "L-Omithine" for L-Ornithine. The slips do not change the formula. If your bottle spells them differently, ask the order desk before assuming anything about it.

What is a proprietary blend on a supplement label?

It is a group of ingredients printed under one total weight, here 200 mg, with the parts in order from most to least. Federal labeling rules allow it (21 CFR 101.36 (eCFR)). The catch is that you cannot see how much of any single herb you get.

Can I work out how much gymnema or ginseng is in one serving?

Only a range. Each ingredient's place caps its weight at 200 mg divided by that place: gymnema, 8th, at most 25 mg, and ginseng, 12th, at most 17 mg. An even split would be about 9 mg each. The exact figures are not printed.

Does the Sugar Defender label list caffeine?

No caffeine amount is printed. Guarana seed and green tea leaf are both in the blend, and both naturally contain caffeine (MSKCC, Guarana). With 1 mL a day the dose is likely small, but if caffeine bothers you, take the drops early in the day.

Who makes Sugar Defender, according to the label?

The label names only a distributor: sugardefender.com, 19655 E 35th Dr #100, Aurora CO 80011. No factory or country of manufacture is named. Isugardefender, which runs this site, is a U.S. shop, not the maker.
